Dear Friends,
Today is the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week!
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy. Even though we’re physically distant, it’s important that we recognize the remarkable work our teachers and support staff do every day.
On March 13th our world changed in an unprecedented way – every public school in the state shut down and we were given little time to prepare for remote learning. Under immense pressure, you worked around the clock to figure out how to take care of your students and try to minimize the disruption to their school year.
You have adapted to a what seems like a new world, developed online learning programs and scrambled to create take-home packets for students without internet. Many of you are in constant communications with students and their parents, while keeping your own families on track.
It’s extraordinary. YOU are extraordinary. From all of us at LFT, I want to thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do.
In honor of all teachers and support staff, AFT is hosting a Thank a Hero Sweepstakes to say thank you to our educators and support local businesses. You can nominate a friend, colleague, your child’s favorite teacher—anyone who you consider YOUR hero. Then, share a photo or a short video, or post about them on social media and by officially entering here. Winners will win free books from First Book or $100 gift cards for takeout to local restaurants to help small businesses stay afloat.
Again, thank you for the work you do every day to educate the next generation.
In Solidarity,
Larry J. Carter, Jr.
President, Louisiana Federation of Teachers & Support Staff
